Boarding at Ranby House School for the children of parents in the Armed Forces

Ranby House has a thriving and happy boarding community for boys and girls from year 3 to year 8 (7 – 13 years). Boarding is fun, exciting, safe and stimulating with all the comforts of home.   Full and weekly boarding options are on offer and there is also a very popular flexi-boarding and casual boarding system in place where children can build up their boarding experience over a period of terms and years.  Ranby House also has day children from age 3 – 13 years.

The boarding children are housed in extremely cosy surroundings, all set in 60 acres of glorious and stunning grounds with superb on-site facilities. There is a boys’ boarding house and a separate girls' boarding house, each run by dedicated and compassionate Houseparents.

There is a strong and lively community at Ranby House with a number of staff living on site; namely the Headmaster and his family, the Deputy Headmaster and his family, the school Chaplain, a school Matron, two Gap Students and two other members of teaching staff who are also boarding tutors.  There is a dedicated and qualified School Nurse.

The boarders lead very active lives at school and enjoy a wealth of evening and weekend activities and opportunities, for example:  ice skating, canoeing, theatre visits, cycling, cinema visits, walks and themed evenings.  There are dedicated sitting rooms for both houses where the children can watch television, play games and listen to music and these are extremely comfortable and happy places where the children may choose just to “chill out with friends”.  Boarders have different bedtimes according to their age.

Children have excellent facilities to ensure that they are able to “stay in touch” with family, having easy access to telephones and computers.

The pastoral care at Ranby House is excellent and with all the outings, parties and in-house entertainments ensures that boarding life at Ranby House is rich, happy and varied.

Boarding at Ranby House School encourages the individual child to grow in confidence and independence in a safe and secure environment.  By developing lives of their own from a young age and learning to live with others and understand and respect them, as well as resolving conflict when it occurs, our children develop all the skills they will need to go out and meet the challenges that they will face in the future.  They will take with them achievements, friendships and interests that will last them a lifetime.

In addition,  we are fortunate that the school’s bursar is ex-military himself and fully understands the process required to apply for the Continuity of Education Allowance.
