Geography

Geography is all around us and we try at Ranby House to encourage the pupil’s appreciation and awareness of the world around them.

This is done through a mixture of formal and individual study – either teacher based or by the children researching their own information.

Up to Year 6 the curriculum is based on Key Stages 2 and 3 of the National Curriculum. The final two years at Ranby concentrate on the Common Entrance and Common Academic Scholarship examinations which are made up of a combination of physical and human aspects of the subject.

Fieldwork plays an important part of the course and trips are organised to the Peak National Park and the Yorkshire Dales. The junior classes carry out their fieldwork within the extensive school grounds and have trips to places such as Flamborough Head on the Yorkshire coast.

Information technology is used throughout the school with the children working on word processing documents, power point and making use of the internet. At the top end of the school fieldwork projects are expected to be written up entirely using IT.

The subject is taught using specialist staff who are all keen to promote and create an interesting environment in which the pupils can learn.
