Music

Music is certainly a vibrant and integral part of everyday life of the school, with musical opportunities for all ages and abilities. Music is taught by a specialist teacher to all pupils throughout the school.

All pupils cover a variety of different musical topics, exploring each through performing, composing, listening and appraising. Topics include amongst others: African Drumming, Indonesian Gamelan, Jazz and Blues Music, with the Year 8 pupils writing their own music to accompany a film clip. In Year 3 all the pupils learn to play the violin as part of the curriculum.

Visiting musicians also come in to take workshops, the most recent being a “Junk Music morning” for the whole of Year 4 where they created their own composition, literally using pieces of old junk.
