Performing Arts
Performing Arts offers an extra dimension for Performance and Entertainment.
The school’s modern Performing Arts Centre provides the ideal location for a variety of activities which add an extra dimension to school life. Pupils are given the opportunity to participate in Music, Drama and Dance in the purpose-built centre which comprises a 300-seat auditorium theatre, a music classroom equipped with the latest computer hardware for composing music and a series of instrumental teaching rooms for individual lessons.
A large percentage of pupils learn at least one musical instrument. The Director of Music leads an experienced team of visiting staff who provide expert teaching in the full range of orchestral instruments. Not only are pupils prepared for Associated Board exams, they also contribute to a variety of major and informal concerts, playing as soloists or in the orchestra or an ensemble.
Drama also plays an important role in a Ranbian’s development. There are several drama productions each year in which everyone is encouraged to take part, whether on stage or behind the scenes.
Dance also features in the list of activities on offer to pupils. Some children have lessons to prepare them for ballet, jazz and modern exams; others choose to participate in Dance as a hobby simply for enjoyment. All dancers have plenty of opportunity for performing, especially in the annual Dance Show. Productions recently undertaken:-
