Personal and Social Health EducationIn the early years this subject is taught by form teachers who look at the practical aspects of communication, growth and development, and interaction. From Year 4 through to Year 8 PSHE is co-ordinated by the Chaplain, a single lesson being delivered each week. The school prides itself in its ability to discuss the key issues of life in the context of the moral and ethical foundation of Christianity. This foundation provides the pupils with a clear reference point in which to discuss issues such as relationships, the environment, puberty, sexuality, poverty, and political systems. The course follows the Governments guidelines on the subjects taught and the appropriate material for each age range. The department is well resourced with both text books and interactive materials which aid discussion.
The PSHE Department aims to prepare children for the challenges and complexity of the outside world whilst also giving them reference points, based on the Christian faith, from which to make wise decisions.
The Rev D R Moore, Head of PSHE
