Religious StudiesReligious Studies is taught by a specialist teacher from years 3 to 8 in the designated RS classroom. Ranby House School is a Woodard School so much of the pupils time is devoted to learning about Christianity. However, in order to increase the pupil’s awareness of other religions they also study Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and Judaism. This also allows them to be able to compare and contrast other religions to Christianity.
Year 3 focus on building strong Christian foundations through stories, learning about Jesus’ life and the beginnings of Christianity.
Year 4 begin the year with Hinduism, one of the oldest world religions. Pupils study Hindu worship and festivals before moving on to look at Holy Week and Bible Heroes.
Year 5 pupils study Islam initially, particularly Muhammad’s life and The Five Pillars of Islam. The latter half of the year is dedicated to Christian Faith in Action, asking how our actions reflect our beliefs.
Year 6 focus on Christianity, beginning with Christian Worship. The highlight of the year is a Church Trip and project in the Spring term comparing church styles. The Summer term is spent studying aspects of the Bible, how it was written and compiled.
Year 7 begins with the tough question of ‘Does God Exist?’ followed by linking religion to the environment. The Spring term is devoted to Justice, particularly focusing on Fair Trade, while the final term is spent studying Sikhism.
Year 8 covers Judaism before moving on to the Incarnation and Resurrection of Jesus, a very thought provoking time for most. The last part of the year focuses on Buddhism, particularly Buddhist beliefs and values.
